Therapeutic Riding, an organization which "transforms the lives and futures of children and adults with unique needs and disabilities through equestrian activities (click on the name to learn more). If you are passionate about working with children and adults with special needs, this is the team for you! We partner with Therapeutic Riding, an organization that uses horse-back riding to help those with disabilities to gain confidence and muscle strength. Each week, you'll head over to the barn and work for two to three hours as a sidewalker, ensuring that your rider's experience is safe and fun as they walk around the arena. No horse experience is necessary -- there are other volunteers whose job is to take care of the horse; you'll just get to have fun with the rider!Â
Our old elderly care ministry partnered with Huron Valley PACE, a non-profit elderly care/day center for older adults in Ann Arbor. At the center, your role will be to converse with the participants there, support staff in any activities being put on, and serve participants as needed.
The lives of hundreds of students in Ypsilanti Community Schools have been affected by the incarceration of a parent. The Village Project provides support for these students through mentorship. In your time with your student, you will have conversation, play games, help with school work, provide emotional support and guidance, and more. You can expect to spend one hour each week with your student, meeting them at school during school hours. Rides can be provided as needed.
